Toyota C-HR 2.0L Petrol vs 2.0L Hybrid: Which Spec Drives Better ROI for Dealers?
Compare the China-market Toyota C-HR 2.0L petrol and 2.0L hybrid for dealer stock: purchase cost, fuel economy, equipment, servicing and which buyers each suits.
The China-market C-HR comes with two drivetrains: a 2.0L petrol with a CVT and a 2.0L hybrid with an E-CVT. For a dealer, the better choice is the one that sells faster at a healthy margin in your market. Here is how they compare on the factors that drive that.
Note: China-market C-HRs use 2.0-litre engines only. Searches for 1.5L or 1.8L C-HR versions refer to other markets.
How do the two drivetrains compare?
| 2.0L Petrol (M20C) | 2.0L Hybrid (M20F + motor) | |
|---|---|---|
| Engine output | 126 kW (171 PS) | 107 kW (146 PS) |
| Electric motor | — | 80 kW, 202 Nm |
| System output | 126 kW | 135 kW |
| Engine torque | 203–205 Nm | 188 Nm |
| Top speed | 185 km/h | 175 km/h |
| Fuel (2023, WLTC) | 5.95 L/100 km | 5.09 L/100 km |
| Fuel tank | 50 L | 43 L |
| Battery | — | NiMH, self-charging |
Which costs less to buy?
The petrol C-HR has a lower purchase price than the hybrid in the same year and trim, and there are more petrol trims to choose from, including Elite base trims in 2021 and 2022. If your customers are price-led, petrol stock lets you hit a lower shelf price. Ask for a side-by-side FOB quotation to see the gap for the units currently available.
Which is cheaper to run?
The hybrid. On the 2023 WLTC figures it uses about 0.86 L/100 km less fuel than the petrol, a 14% saving. The gap widens in slow city traffic, where the electric motor does more of the work. For a private owner covering 15,000 km a year that is roughly 130 litres saved; for a taxi covering 80,000 km it is nearly 700 litres a year.
What about equipment?
Hybrid trims are generally better equipped: every hybrid has Toyota Safety Sense, a 7-inch instrument display and dual-zone automatic climate control. On the petrol side, the 2023 model also has Toyota Safety Sense on all trims, while 2021–2022 Elite trims do without it. Compare trims on each vehicle page.
Which is easier to service in my market?
The petrol C-HR. It has a naturally aspirated engine and a conventional CVT, so any workshop familiar with Toyota can maintain it. Toyota hybrid systems have a strong durability record, but if hybrid diagnosis is uncommon in your market, factor in technician training or a service partner.
So which should a dealer stock?
- Mostly petrol if your buyers are price-led, drive long distances, or your service network is unfamiliar with hybrids.
- Mostly hybrid if you sell to taxi and ride-hailing drivers, urban buyers or corporate fleets with fuel budgets.
- A mix in most other cases — mixed-model containers are accepted, so one shipment can test both.
